Accra:Afigya Sekyere East The Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Afigya Sekyere East have issued an apology to Agonamanhene, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, and the Agona Traditional Council following a clerical error in an invitation letter sent by the area’s Member of Parliament, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu, which resulted in a ban on the MP’s tournament.
According to Ghana Web, the apology addressed a mistake where Agonamanhene was referred to as 'Chief' instead of 'Paramount Chief' in the invitation letter. The NPP executives emphasized that this error was unintentional and expressed their regret, assuring that it was not meant as a sign of disrespect.
The Agona Traditional Council had previously sent a letter accusing the MP of disrespect, following the invitation letter dated 8 October. Agonamanhene described the misaddress as "a huge surprise and an insult of the highest order," leading to a ban on the MP from organizing events in the traditional jurisdiction, including the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament scheduled for 23 October 2026.
The NPP executives defended the MP, asserting her integrity and respect for traditional customs. They clarified that the MP's absence at a previous enstoolment was not intentional and she was represented by party officials and family members. Additionally, the executives highlighted the MP's attempts to visit Agonamanhene and her efforts in organizing the football tournament as a youth development initiative.
The NPP executives reiterated their respect for the Agonamanhene and other traditional leaders, acknowledging their role in cultural preservation and community development, and expressed their desire to maintain a harmonious relationship with the Agona Traditional Council.
