Takoradi, The Western Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has commended the media fraternity in the Region for the massive support and commitment exhibited before, during and after the recent elections.
We are excited by the democratic nature of the entire process last Friday, a statement issued on Monday in Takoradi and signed by the secretary, Mr Zambaga Rufai Saminu, said: We in the Western Region, therefore, urge all members to continue to uphold the ethical standards of the profession, remain committed to the principles underpinning the core foundation of the Association.
The regional GJA would like to commend members and candidates, agents and their observers for upholding the process as indicated by the Electoral Commission, we also want to reach out to all contestants to come on board as we chart a new path.
As newly elected executive members, our commitment to the Association is to ensure that qualified membership drive is sustained in the next three years as we administer the activities of the Association in the Western Region, it said.
The statement said: We also want to pledge our commitment to work in collaboration with the national executive members to grow the Association, work with a united front, build new frontiers and open windows of opportunities for members to improve the standard of journalism in the country.
These would include internal and external capacity building programmes for members and scholarships, as we work together to position journalism stronger in the country, while playing the gate-keeping role to ensure safe and just society.
It, however, appealed to the members to remain committed to the Ethics and Constitution of the Association, adding; Together we can make it more attractive and relevant to our affiliates working in the corporate world.
