Accra: Some residents of Sefwi Asafo and Dwenase communities in the Western North Region have welcomed the government's decision to commence the construction of a new regional hospital for them.
According to Ghana News Agency, some nursing trainees at the College of Health expressed that the decision was welcome news. They stated that the facility, once constructed, would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area. Additionally, they noted that the hospital would provide employment opportunities for the numerous youths pursuing health-related courses in the region.
Other residents highlighted that a new regional hospital would attract more qualified health professionals to the region, enhancing the effectiveness of the healthcare delivery system. Colonel (Rtd) Anthony Aduhene, President of the Solidarity Movement of Western North, a group dedicated to the creation of the Western North Region, praised the government for its decision. He emphasized that the move would enhance healthcare delivery and improve residents' wellbeing.
Colonel Aduhene further stated, "A regional hospital in Western North will help prevent avoidable deaths since our people will no longer travel to other regions for medical care because more specialists will be based here to render quality services to residents."
The announcement came as part of President John Dramani Mahama's State of the Nation Address on February 27, where he revealed plans to commence the construction of new regional hospitals in the Western North, Oti, and Savannah regions.
