Police Officer Arrested in Connection with Death of Central University Student

Accra: The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested, and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo, a Central University law student. According to Ghana Web, the officer was identified following initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on the Tema Motorway on August 27, 2026. The Police Service announced on Saturday, September 12, 2026, that the General Corporal is currently in custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Baidoo's death continue. The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been tasked with establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Additionally, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the conduct of the officer involved. The Ghana Police Service assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations. The family of Ivan Baidoo has appealed for information to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death. Family accounts shared on social media platform X on September 6 indicate that Baidoo was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle allegedly pursued by a police vehicle prior to the fatal accident. The family is urging anyone with information or footage related to the incident to come forward. A public appeal poster circulating in connection with the case offers a reward of GH$50,000 for credible information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of individuals responsible. Meanwhile, investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash remain ongoing. Baidoo, identified in related appeals as a former Santa (2024) and Quaque House Prefect, was described by relatives as a promising young man whose sudden death has left them devastated.
