Accra: Mr Alexander Konadu, the National President of the Wesley Grammar School Old Students Association, has appealed to the government to support the construction of internal roads within the school. He emphasized that the untarred road causes uneasiness, especially due to dust, and that addressing this issue would benefit teaching and learning.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Konadu made this appeal during the school's 70th anniversary celebration in Accra. He highlighted that various year groups have undertaken several projects, such as renovating the main gate, establishing a robotic center, and enhancing the science and maths center. Additionally, they have initiated the construction of a new dormitory for girls, seeking support to complete it on schedule.
Mr Konadu further outlined planned activities for the anniversary, including homecoming, a public lecture, a bonfire event, a thanksgiving service, and the main anniversary ceremony, which will feature key government officials. He urged all former students to actively participate in these events to ensure their success.
Mr Patrick Richard Okine, Lead Project Consultant for the Anniversary, expressed concern about the rising indiscipline in schools. He advocated for stricter punishments to serve as a deterrent. He also reminded students of the school's commitment to instilling discipline and urged them to adhere to rules and regulations.
Madam Barbara Juliet Tekyiwaa Thompson, the Headmistress, praised the old students' groups for their completed and ongoing projects, noting the need for more efforts to enhance learning outcomes. She encouraged other students to contribute to future projects.
Mr Michael Moi Buckman, Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, invited the public to participate in the upcoming public lecture focused on education, aiming to promote improvements in the sector.
