Cape coast: The Wesley Girls' High School Old Girls' Association (WGHS OGA) has rejected recent allegations of religious discrimination at the school. The Association described the claims as unfounded and inconsistent with the institution's long-standing record of inclusivity.
According to Ghana News Agency, this was contained in a press release signed by Ms. Harriet Wereko-Brobby, President of the Association. The statement emphasized that Wesley Girls' High School operates within a disciplined structure guided by Methodist values while remaining open to students of all faiths. It stressed the necessity of abiding by the principle of 'in loco parentis,' which requires objective guidelines to ensure safety, discipline, and academic excellence for all students.
The statement further noted that not every individual preference could be accommodated if it risked distorting the school's curriculum or monitoring systems. It highlighted the importance of impartiality, acknowledging that any allowances made for one particular faith must be extended to all faiths, which could pose a challenge to the school's order and safety.
The Association expressed its support for the Methodist Church Ghana, which laid the spiritual and moral foundation of the school over a century ago. It affirmed its solidarity with the Headmistress, the School Board, and the Methodist Church Ghana in preserving the cherished values and standards that have shaped generations of principled women.
The statement concluded by calling for calm and urging the public to approach the matter with restraint and respect.
