Accra: Chief Superintendent George Kwakye, the Wenchi District Police Commander in the Bono Region, has made a public appeal for logistical support to improve crime-fighting capabilities within the Wenchi Municipality. The district police, tasked with overseeing more than 100 towns and villages, are currently hampered by a lack of patrol vehicles and essential operational logistics, which is affecting their ability to perform effective policing.
According to Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent Kwakye expressed his concerns during an interview in Wenchi, highlighting that the absence of a single operational vehicle for patrols is a significant barrier to modern policing, especially with the rising crime rates in the area. The situation is creating challenges in responding promptly to emergencies, conducting routine patrols, and implementing general crime prevention measures.
Chief Superintendent Kwakye has called upon businesses, corporate organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to provide the necessary logistical support to the police command. He also urged the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to assist the district police by supplying an operational vehicle, which is urgently needed to enhance crime control efforts in the municipality.
