‘We Are Disliked for Fighting for Customers’ – Star Oil CEO

Accra: Chief Executive Officer of indigenous Oil Marketing Company (OMC) Star Oil, Kwame Tieku, has said the company remains one of the most disliked players in the petroleum industry because of its strong commitment to protecting consumer interests and promoting fair competition.

According to Ghana Web, Tieku noted in a Facebook post on January 19, 2026, that the company's pricing and market strategies, which prioritize affordability for customers, have drawn criticism and resistance from competitors. He urged supporters to "always pray for us" as they continue to be the most disliked in the industry for their consumer-focused approach.

Tieku emphasized that without Star Oil's presence, competition in the market would have been severely limited, potentially leading to higher fuel prices and reduced consumer choice. He countered claims by some industry players that Star Oil aims to eliminate competitors and establish a monopoly, dismissing such accusations as unfounded.

The CEO stressed that the company's objective is to create a fair, transparent, and competitive fuel market that benefits the Ghanaian consumer. Tieku reaffirmed the OMC's commitment to innovation, competitive pricing, and ethical business practices, despite the alleged resistance it faces within the sector.
