Kedzi-vodza: The Volta Regional chapter of the Ghana Triathlon Federation organized a cycling competition at Kedzi-Vodza in the Keta Municipality, aiming to nurture and unearth new talent in the sport. The event was spearheaded by Oly Sports Consult and attracted athletes who showcased endurance, dedication, and skill along the scenic Kedzi-Vodza coastline.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Felix Apedo, CEO of Oly Sports Consult, stated that the competition saw participation from 20 athletes, including seven runners, seven cyclists, and six persons with disabilities (PWDs). These athletes demonstrated their physical prowess, highlighting the growing interest in triathlon disciplines in the region. The event was notably inclusive, with PWDs actively participating, underscoring the commitment to promoting sports for all.
After a rigorous contest, Mr. Moses Tettey emerged as the overall winner, while Madam Enyonam Medzesiwo and Sylvanus Zigli secured second and third positions, respectively, in the PWDs categories. As a gesture of appreciation, the association awarded certificates and cash prizes to all participants, motivating and supporting their continued involvement in the sport.
Mr. Apedo, also an Executive Member of the Ghana National Triathlon Association, expressed satisfaction with the high level of competition and congratulated the athletes for their endurance and commitment. He emphasized that the primary motive behind the initiative is to refine existing skills and develop talent in the region to ensure a sustainable future for triathlon.
He appealed to benevolent organizations, philanthropists, individuals, and the government to focus their attention on such sporting events to foster talent development in the area. Meanwhile, Mr. Moses Tettey and other participating athletes expressed gratitude to the organizers for hosting a successful and well-coordinated event. They urged the sports ministry to adopt and support athletes in the sport to foster more development and reshape youth talent in the municipality and the region at large.
