Adaklu: The longstanding perception of Ghana's Volta Region as a no-go zone for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is rapidly changing, according to Frank Addison Darkey, the Adaklu Constituency Secretary of the NPP. Darkey emphasized the party's growing acceptance and support in the region, especially among the youth, during a recent rally in Adaklu Helekpe. According to Ghana News Agency, Darkey highlighted that in the past, it was challenging for individuals in the Volta Region to openly identify with the NPP due to fear of persecution or harassment. However, he noted that the dynamics have shifted, with the party making significant inroads and attracting more members. He attributed this shift to the recognition of the NPP's pro-poor and youth-centered initiatives, such as the free Senior High School program, which has benefited many young people in the region. Darkey commended the youth in Adaklu for their warm reception of Dr. Muhammadu Bawumia, the Vice President, during his campaign tour. He urged them to support Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections to enable the continuation and expansion of pro-youth policies. Darkey expressed confidence in the party's ability to "break the eight," a reference to the NPP's goal of winning a third consecutive term in office. The rally at Adaklu Helekpe saw an unprecedented turnout, with enthusiastic supporters greeting Dr. Bawumia and his entourage. Dr. Bawumia, addressing the crowd, promised to amend section 63 of the Chieftaincy Act to empower chiefs and reduce reliance on the courts. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception in a region traditionally seen as a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress and expressed hope that the support would translate into votes.
