NPP Denies Allegations of Plot to Remove Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader

Accra:The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has categorically dismissed allegations that the party is conspiring to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin from his position as Minority Leader in Parliament.

According to Ghana Web, Kodua Frimpong, speaking at a press conference on October 29, 2026, clarified that no such discussions have occurred within any level of the party's structures. He emphasized that Afenyo-Markin is performing exceptionally well and questioned the rationale behind removing a successful member of the party. He urged party members to ignore these claims, labeling them as false.

The NPP's response comes in the wake of comments made by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei. She warned that any attempt to oust Afenyo-Markin would provoke public backlash. Appiagyei praised Afenyo-Markin for his courage, wisdom, and intelligence, which she believes have strengthened the Minority Caucus and enhanced the NPP's appeal. Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3, she mentioned that she has neither observed nor heard of any move to remove him but cautioned against such actions.
