Ho, Jul. 22, GNA – The Volta Region House of Chiefs has sanctioned an investigation into border enforcement at Leklebi Kame in the Afadzato South District of the Volta region.
The immigration post in the area, sited about 300 metres into the country’s authority, is said to alienate parts of the community, and raised political tensions during the 2020 elections.
The border issue became an agenda for discussion on the House meeting, which at the time compelled a visit by Togbe Afede XIV, then President of the National House of Chiefs, who condemned the placement, and called for a human face to the enforcement.
Togbe Tepre Hodo, IV, President of the Volta Region House, said at its general meeting on Thursday, that local sources claim the border existed, and continued to divide the community.
He said security heads had recently reported to chiefs at an engagement, that the border had been corrected, and that there was the need for a firsthand view of the situation.
Mr. Harry Attipoe, Registrar of the House was therefore directed to lead a delegation of chiefs to investigate the frontier enforcement in the various communities, and report to the House.
Togbe Tepre Hodo said the relevant agencies would be engaged in addressing the issue.
Togbe Afede, said the border situation needed to be investigated, and that the communities needed to secure all rights of existence.
The meeting heard reports from the various Committees of the House, and deliberated matters covering finance, welfare, and management.
Togbe Afede, asked the House to consider exploring further avenues of support for the Institution, to enable the sustenance of its activities through a global financial downslide.
On the cost of arbitration amidst the frequency of chieftaincy disputes, which continued to burden the Institution some members called for education on the lines of succession, which they said would help prevent secession disputes.
Togbe Afede said the House should take advantage of initiatives to chronicle traditional records, and that Government should power such initiatives.
