Volta Region Advances 20-Year Development Plan

Ho:A significant three-day technical session is currently taking place to create a comprehensive 20-year Spatial Development Framework for the Volta Region. This framework aims to strategically guide all future development activities across the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Benjamin Mensah, the Volta Regional Director for the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), emphasized the importance of this framework as a master strategic blueprint. It will cover the region's socio-economic and infrastructural aspects, ensuring organized execution of development projects.

The framework is mandated under the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act, 2016 (Act 925), which requires regions with a spatial planning committee to formulate such a plan to direct land use and developmental growth. Mr. Mensah highlighted the necessity of accurate data in creating an effective plan, acknowledging the contributions of various institutions in providing essential sector data.

Mr. Mensah urged for continued collaboration from all institutions, noting that the framework's success depends on teamwork. He also stressed the importance of environmental preservation, warning that uncoordinated expansion could jeopardize the region's reputation as one of the cleanest in Ghana.

The finalised spatial framework is expected to harmonize regional growth, integrating cross-cutting developmental issues to enhance the Volta Region's overall socio-economic strength.
