Underperforming ECG Districts Face Potential Overhaul, Warns Energy Minister

Accra: The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has issued a stern warning to district managers at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) about the need to enhance their performance. The minister cautioned that persistent poor service could result in significant organizational changes within the company.

According to Ghana Web, Jinapor expressed his concerns during an interview with journalists on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. He highlighted the troubling delays in addressing power outages in various parts of the country, describing the responsiveness of some district offices as unsatisfactory. The minister emphasized the importance of swift response to power cuts to meet customer expectations and needs.

Jinapor revealed that he has instructed the Managing Director of ECG to conduct an internal review of the affected districts to identify and rectify deficiencies. The focus of this review will be on enhancing service delivery and ensuring that customers receive prompt support during electricity disruptions. His remarks come in response to increasing complaints from consumers about the prolonged time taken to address reported outages.

The minister acknowledged the overall good performance of ECG but pointed out specific districts that consistently underperform. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation, prompting him to direct immediate corrective actions. Jinapor mentioned the possibility of a major shake-up if necessary, urging district managers to fulfill their responsibilities and improve service quality to avoid such drastic measures.
