Accra:Uganda Airlines has launched a new direct flight service to Ghana, significantly reducing travel time between the two countries from up to 10 hours to approximately five hours. This development was announced by Uganda’s Minister of State for Transport, Fred Byamukama, who highlighted the benefits of the new service at the inaugural flight ceremony held at Accra International Airport.
According to Ghana Web, Minister Byamukama emphasized that prior to this service, passengers traveling between Uganda and Ghana had to transit through other countries, often resulting in long waiting periods for connecting flights. The new direct flights are expected to not only save time and money for travelers but also enhance trade and tourism between the two nations.
The direct flight service will operate four times a week and aims to facilitate easier travel for tourists and businesspeople. Byamukama praised the collaborative efforts of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Transport, which he said have made the reduced travel time possible. He also noted that this initiative aligns with the broader goal of maximizing tourism and business opportunities across Africa by improving connectivity.
Additionally, Byamukama extended an invitation to Ghanaian businesses and investors to explore opportunities in Uganda, highlighting incentives such as tax holidays, tax exemptions, and land availability. He also pointed out Uganda's strategic location and extensive road network as key advantages for accessing other East African countries.
The minister expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana for supporting the new flight service and easing visa restrictions for Ugandan travelers. He called for stronger cooperation and movement between African nations, acknowledging Uganda Airlines’ management for their role in establishing the route and pledging continued governmental support to enhance air connectivity and economic ties between Ghana and Uganda.
