Accra: The University of Ghana (UG) Sports and Wellness Directorate is set to inaugurate the 'UG Cycling Club,' marking the first-ever university cycling club in Ghana, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, during the 2026 PRUFunRide.
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Austin Luguterah, Director of the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, emphasized the significance of nurturing cycling talent at the university level. He expressed appreciation for Prudential's role in supporting the sport's expansion, highlighting that nurturing talent at the university stage is crucial for cycling.
With the launch of the club, the Directorate aims to utilize PRURide as a platform to ignite student interest and enhance competitive capabilities in cycling. This initiative represents a notable advancement in promoting and developing cycling within Ghana's university system.
The PRUFunRide event is scheduled to occur on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the University of Ghana Campus, commencing from Diaspora Hall at 7 am. The event anticipates the participation of the Minister of Sports and Recreation, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Director-General of the National Sports Authority, CEO and staff of Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, corporate organizations, cycling enthusiasts, students, and members of the general public.
