Carpentras: Two young children, aged two and four, were found dead inside their family's car in the southern French town of Carpentras. According to initial findings, the siblings had accidentally locked themselves inside the vehicle, the local prosecutor's office said.
According to Ghana News Agency, the children's mother discovered them in the car, which was parked in the driveway of the family home. Despite emergency services' attempts to resuscitate the children, they were unable to save them.
The prosecutor's office has launched a preliminary investigation into involuntary manslaughter. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the deaths.
The 33-year-old mother was treated for shock by firefighters, and investigators were initially unable to question her due to her condition. The investigation is ongoing.
This tragic incident occurred amid an intense heatwave in France, with temperatures soaring as high as 42 degrees Celsius in some regions. In Carpentras, temperatures reached approximately 39 degrees on the day of the incident, as reported by the national weather service, M©t©o-France. Large areas of France remain under the highest-level red heat alert, with further temperature increases expected in the coming days.
