MTN MoMo Promotes Digital Payments at 2026 MoMoFest x ShattaFest

Accra:MobileMoney Fintech Limited (MMFL), operators of MTN MoMo, showcased the future of cashless transactions at the 2026 MoMoFest x ShattaFest. The event, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, aimed to promote financial inclusion and fraud prevention among festivalgoers and traders through the integration of digital financial services into entertainment.

According to Ghana News Agency, the festival allowed patrons to utilize the MoMo App for various purchases, such as food and clothing. This initiative was designed to encourage the use of mobile money in everyday transactions, offering traders the opportunity to experience the advantages of digital payments in a bustling commercial setting.

MMFL provided education on fraud prevention to both festivalgoers and vendors, focusing on account protection, scam identification, and the adoption of safe digital financial practices. Mr. Shaibu Haruna, CEO of MMFL, highlighted the partnership's goal to leverage the influence of entertainment to inspire young people to explore business opportunities and support entrepreneurship.

The 2026 edition of the festival builds on a collaboration from ShattaFest 2025 at Independence Square, linking the entertainment and financial technology sectors to promote digital finance among the youth. The partnership with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and his management team aims to use entertainment's popularity to introduce digital financial services to broader audiences.

For traders, mobile money presents an alternative to cash, potentially minimizing cash-handling risks, simplifying payment collection, and providing transaction records for sales monitoring. The initiative illustrated how entertainment events could serve as practical platforms for experiencing digital payments.

However, the sustained adoption of digital payments will rely on reliable network services, affordable transaction charges, and consumer confidence in digital financial services. MMFL noted that the success of the 2026 edition has opened up prospects for expanding the MoMoFest x ShattaFest model to other markets in the region.
