Trader Granted Bail in Alleged iPhone Fraud Case

Dansoman:A 34-year-old trader and mechanic, William Kessie, has been granted bail by the Dansoman Circuit Court in connection with an alleged iPhone fraud case. The bail was set at GHS100,000 with the condition that one of the two required sureties must be a salaried worker earning no less than GHS5,000.

According to Ghana Web, Kessie is accused of defrauding Chester Donkor, a phone dealer based in Accra, by obtaining 11 iPhones valued at GHS134,500 under the pretense of selling them and returning the proceeds. Kessie has pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, stated that Kessie allegedly sold the phones but failed to return the money, using the proceeds for personal expenses instead. The phones included various models from the iPhone 14, 15, 16, and 17 series.

The case came to light when Donkor filed a petition with the Accra Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department on October 5, 2026. Kessie was arrested the same day and, during the investigation, admitted to selling the phones and using the money for his own needs.

Kessie faces charges of defrauding by false pretences, in violation of Section 131 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court will continue to hear the case as investigations proceed.
