Torkor atorlia: A landmark once known as Anloland's highest seat of traditional justice is set for transformation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the proposed Torkor Atorlia Museum and Tourist Centre will convert the historic 'Fifth Landing Stage' (Torkor Atorlia) at Anloga into a heritage, research, and tourism hub that tells the story of the Anlo people to the world. The complex, with a proposed iconic sculpture, will house a museum featuring curated artifacts, a library with books on Anlo and Ewe history, a conference hall for lectures and cultural events, and ancillary facilities.
Mr. Silas Aidam, Secretary of the Torkor Atorlia Project Committee, stated that Torkor Atorlia was where Anlo Dukor (State) addressed the gravest offences under customary law. Instead of letting that history fade, the project aims to preserve it with dignity. The centre will feature landscaped gardens, a motorable road, and a car park leading to a reception terrace.
The design will take visitors on a journey through Anlo history, starting at a modern reception complex and ending at a sacred pond used in post-judgment cleansing rituals. A notable feature will be a corridor lined with sculpted busts of past Awoamefias (Anlo rulers), with guided tours on their reigns.
The project committee secretary revealed that the land has been surveyed by Dr. John Amaglo, with architectural designs by Mr. Leo Amedume, and quantities assessed by Mr. Carl Banini. Mr. Aidam expressed that the committee is working to inaugurate the project soon, inviting contributions from the Anlo community to realize the centre as a legacy to preserve Anlo history and identity while showcasing one of Ghana's cultural treasures.
