Aflao: Torgbui Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, has issued a passionate appeal to parents, emphasizing the critical importance of investing in their children's education as the most valuable legacy they can provide.
According to Ghana News Agency, Torgbui Fiti delivered this message while serving as the Guest of Honour at the 10th anniversary celebration of the Mercyland Association-Aflao. In his address, Torgbui Fiti, who also holds the position of President of the Aflao Traditional Council, stressed that children are the future pillars of families, communities, and the nation. He underscored the significance of higher education in equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead responsible and productive lives.
Torgbui Fiti expressed concern over the trend of parents allocating resources to material possessions and social events, yet struggling to invest adequately in their children's education. He highlighted how education fosters critical thinking, discipline, and good values, greatly enhancing children's prospects of securing meaningful employment and making positive societal contributions.
He warned of the limited opportunities faced by children denied education, making them susceptible to poverty, unemployment, and social challenges later in life. Torgbui Fiti urged parents to envision the future they desire for their children, encouraging aspirations for them to become influential figures such as Members of Parliament, Ministers, Chief Executives, or even Presidents.
Noting that many of today's respected personalities hail from modest backgrounds, he emphasized the power of determination and commitment to education in overcoming challenges. He advised parents to curtail excessive spending on clothing for social events and redirect those resources towards educational expenses such as school fees and books.
The event also celebrated the accomplishments of the Mercyland Association-Aflao, a collective of market women supporting each other both economically and socially. The Association's contributions to community development include a donation of over GHS14,000 to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital, educational assistance worth GHS26,000 for 14 orphans, and financial aid of GHS10,000 to five widows to bolster their businesses.
The anniversary celebration drew traditional leaders, market women, opinion leaders, and residents, all of whom praised the Association's positive impact and echoed the call for stronger support for children's education.
