Effutu: The Effutu Divisional Police Command has refuted media claims of fatalities and numerous injuries after a recent clash involving youth groups in Sankro, a locality within the Effutu Municipality. ACP Ibrahim Opoku, the Effutu Municipal Commander, clarified in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident did not result in any deaths.
According to Ghana Web, two individuals who sustained critical injuries during the altercation are currently hospitalized in Cape Coast and Accra, where they are receiving medical care. ACP Opoku mentioned that Emmanuel Bonney, also known as Excoba, was reported dead by community members after collapsing during the clash. However, this information was incorrect.
Three individuals, including Excoba, have been presented before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court and are remanded until February 10, 2026. A firearm was recovered from the community, which has now returned to normalcy with residents resuming their daily activities.
The police have urged the public to assist by providing information on other individuals identified in videos circulating on social media. ACP Opoku also appealed to the media to verify their information with the police before disseminating it to the public.
