Three Basic Schools Set to Clash in Young Mind Intellectuals Quiz Finale

Keta: The season six edition of the Young Mind Intellectuals Quiz (YMIQ) in the Anloga District of the Volta Region is set to feature three Basic schools in the finals. They are the Lord's Academy School in Anloga, Ketasco Number 2 M/A Basic School, and Keta Bright Future School, who will compete for supremacy and the ultimate prize.

According to Ghana News Agency, the annual competition saw a total of 28 Basic schools from the Anloga district and Keta Municipality register for the season six edition, with the three schools overcoming them to make it to the much-anticipated grand finale. Mr. Courage Fiawogbey, the Executive Director of YMIQ, mentioned in an interview that the event was organized by the Young Foundation Builders Network in collaboration with Likhem Media to promote intellectual growth among young students in the region.

Mr. Fiawogbey stated that the competition in previous years has produced notable National Sciences and Maths Quiz contestants who represented various Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Keta and Anloga districts at national levels. He expressed satisfaction with their contributions to these successful stories. The event aims to inspire young minds to pursue knowledge and develop critical thinking skills through engaging quiz formats. Winners of the competition would receive cash prizes and recognition certificates to motivate them and other students to participate in future academic contests.

The quiz championship places emphasis on the importance of academic excellence and encourages students to excel in various subjects, especially Sciences and Mathematics. The Quiz also aims to foster healthy academic rivalry among schools in the Volta Region to boost educational standards.

The grand final is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 6, at 0900 hours at the Global Evangelical Church Bethany Chapel, near Ketasco Boys Hostel, Keta. Mr. Fiawogbey lamented the lack of adequate support to run a successful competition and appealed to the public, including the District Chief Executive (DCE) and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Anloga and Keta, respectively, to help the organizers raise a minimum of GHS10,000 to fund the finals. This funding would cover the cash prizes for the three schools and individual contestants.

He explained that sponsorship would also help handle logistics such as transportation for participating teams and the production of certificates, among other needs for winners and other contestants. Mr. Fiawogbey described the competition as an opportunity to shape future leaders, innovators, and nation builders and highlighted the need for financial support to produce more brilliant and responsible students in the area.
