The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Funds New Clinic in Morso

Morso: Healthcare delivery in Morso, a community in the Asante-Akim South Municipality, has received a boost with the inauguration of a modern clinic funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The newly commissioned facility, which includes nurses’ quarters, replaces the inadequate structure that struggled to serve the growing population of Morso and its surrounding communities.

According to Ghana News Agency, the call for a new clinic was championed by Emerita Professor Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu, a native of the town, along with other key stakeholders. They spent years appealing to philanthropic organizations for support to address the health needs of the area. Their efforts succeeded when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints agreed to sponsor the construction of a fully-equipped clinic.

The commissioning ceremony was marked by joy and gratitude as community members celebrated the Church’s intervention. Elder Isaac K. Morrison, Second Counsellor in the West Africa West Area Presidency of the Church, praised the collaboration with local authorities, traditional leaders, and health authorities. He explained that the Church’s mission was to do good by expressing its love and devotion to Jesus Christ through humanitarian acts. He expressed hope that the inclusion of nurses’ quarters would ensure the availability of medical personnel at all times.

The facility is equipped with essential medical equipment, including delivery beds, hospital beds, an ultrasound machine, and furniture. Elder Morrison noted that the Church’s global humanitarian work was funded through voluntary donations from its members worldwide.

Prof. Ntiamoah-Baidu recounted how her resolve to seek support for a new clinic was sparked by an incident at the old facility, where male and female patients had to share the same space. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the new facility, urging all stakeholders to take responsibility.

Mr. Reuben Antwi, Municipal Director of Health Services, described the facility as a major infrastructure investment that would transform healthcare in Morso. He added that while the directorate would ensure the facility is well maintained, the community must also play its part.

Rev. Ransford Asante, Assembly Member for the Morso Bisease Electoral Area, expressed appreciation to the Church for addressing one of the community’s challenges. He called on other organizations to follow the Church’s example and support vulnerable communities with similar interventions.
