Accra: The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has declared a temporary ban on drumming and noise-making across all communities within the Ga Traditional Area as part of traditional observance for the upcoming Homowo Festival.
According to Ghana Web, the ban will commence on Monday, May 4, and end on Thursday, June 4, 2026. This directive aims to ensure peace and harmony during the period. Residents are expected to adhere strictly to the guidelines set forth by the AMA. The ban requires churches to conduct activities within their premises without the use of musical instruments and prohibits the use of external loudspeakers by churches, mosques, and pubs. Additionally, roadside evangelism activities are expected to be halted throughout this period.
The AMA has urged religious and traditional authorities to maintain mutual respect and refrain from making derogatory or inflammatory remarks about each other's beliefs. The Ga Traditional Council has also prohibited funeral rites and related activities during this period.
An enforcement task force, comprising personnel from the AMA, the Ghana Police Service, and representatives of the Traditional Councils, will oversee adherence to the directive. Only members of this authorized task force, identifiable by tags, are permitted to enforce the noise abatement measures. The AMA has cautioned against unauthorized groups or individuals involving themselves in enforcement activities within the metropolis.
