Tema: The Tema Metro Education Office has launched a self-help project to construct a modern office complex after operating from various premises over the past six decades. The project aims to address the long-standing issue of inadequate office accommodation for the directorate.
According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative comes after a failed promise and previous plans by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) to provide the directorate with a permanent office. The directorate was ejected from the premises of the TDC Company Limited, along with other public institutions, prompting the need for a new office space.
Madam Bernice Ofori, the Tema Metro Education Director, highlighted the directorate’s role as a crucial administrative body responsible for overseeing pre-tertiary educational standards across approximately 300 schools in Tema Metro. She revealed that the directorate has been operating from rented premises for several years, with offices scattered across different communities, making supervision
and monitoring challenging.
Madam Ofori expressed concern over the lack of a permanent office, emphasizing the importance of having their own space to facilitate better coordination of educational activities in Tema. She called upon organizations, groups, and individuals to support the construction of the modern office complex, which is estimated to cost between seven to 10 million Ghana Cedis.
Ms Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who chaired the launch, praised the directorate for its initiative. She announced that the assembly has revised its budget to include the project, reaffirming their support and urging others to contribute, reflecting on the benefits they received from the educational system.
The envisioned office complex, designed by the Tema Technical Institute, will feature multiple offices, a conference hall with a seating capacity of 50 to 70, a kitchen, washrooms, including facilities for the handicapped, and other amenities.
