Techiman South Assembly Elects New Presiding Member After Five Attempts

TECHIMAN: The Techiman South Municipal Assembly in Ghana's Bono East Region has successfully elected a new Presiding Member after five unsuccessful attempts, a move expected to accelerate development efforts in the municipality. Mr. Isaac Kwaku Frimpong, a government appointee and teacher at Techiman Senior High School, was elected at a recent assembly meeting. According to Ghana News Agency, the 48-member assembly, composed of 32 elected members and 16 government appointees, had struggled to reach a consensus in previous sessions, which had hindered progress. During the election supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr. Frimpong secured 35 votes, equivalent to 73 percent of the total valid votes, defeating his sole opponent, Mr. Adams Issah, who garnered 10 votes. Mr. Frimpong expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for their trust and promised to maintain an open-door policy to foster collaborative development efforts. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, tenacity, and trust in facilitating the assembly's decision-making process and encouraged members to set aside differences to work in unity. Techiman Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko commended the assembly members for their cooperation and expressed optimism that their united efforts would propel the municipality's development forward. He also mentioned ongoing plans to enhance the lighting systems for improved security ahead of the December 7 elections and urged members to remain innovative in addressing the community's needs.
