Adenta: Nicholas Teye, the teacher at the center of an assault incident at the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) in Adenta, has reacted to the court's ruling on the matter. The Adenta Circuit Court on Monday, March 30, 2026, ruled that each student is fined an amount of GHS4,000 in addition to signing a bond of good behaviour.
According to Ghana Web, Teye expressed his disappointment with the court's decision, stating that he had expected the students to be jailed for at least two years. He revealed that prior to the ruling, the students had confidently told him the case would not result in any significant consequences, a prediction he now sees as confirmed by the court's outcome.
Teye voiced his frustration and hurt, sharing details of the assault. He said, "I initially thought those involved were going to be jailed for two years, but instead they were made to sign a bond of good behaviour. It was their parents who influenced this outcome. The children even told me to my face that the case was not going anywhere, and indeed nothing was done to them. This confirms what they said, and it has deeply hurt me. They struck me on the head with a stick and hit my back as well," he told Adom News.
The case originated from an incident in February 2026 on the WASS campus, where Teye was attacked following a confrontation that escalated with one of the students. The assault garnered widespread attention and condemnation from education stakeholders, particularly teacher unions, who raised alarms about increasing indiscipline and safety issues in schools.
Teye, who sustained injuries from the attack, is reportedly on the mend. Members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and other educators attended the court proceedings to show their support for Teye.
