Swedru School Given 24-Hour Police Ultimatum Over Student Assault

Swedru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has given the Swedru School of Business 24 hours to present students accused of assaulting an Obrachire SHS student in a viral video. The directive follows a violent incident during the annual inter-colleges games involving students of the two institutions, which has drawn public concern.

According to Ghana News Agency, Commissioner of Police (COP) Ms Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the CID, issued the ultimatum during a meeting with the management of Swedru School of Business and Obrachire Senior High Technical School on February 23, 2026. The measure aims to assist ongoing investigations. She urged calm and cooperation as police work to address the matter comprehensively.

COP Donkor stated that failure by the school to comply would compel the Police to take over investigations to ensure that perpetrators face the full rigours of the law. She stressed that compliance would facilitate swift and thorough handling of the case.

COP Donkor underscored the seriousness of the violence and its potential consequences for the students involved. She said investigations had formally commenced to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons connected to it. The victim is responding to treatment.

COP Donkor reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service's commitment to ensuring accountability, maintaining law and order, and promoting safety within educational institutions.
