Tamale: The Northern Regional Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 33-year-old suspected drug dealer, retrieving significant quantities of Tramadol and other substances during an anti-drug operation at Zujung in the Tamale Metropolis.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspect, identified as Abdul Manan, was arrested on Friday during a routine anti-drug peddling operation conducted by the police team. The operation aimed to curb the sale and distribution of illicit drugs within the metropolis. Led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku, the operation followed intelligence gathered on the suspect's alleged involvement in illicit drug activities.
A press release issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, detailed the police team's actions. They proceeded to Zujung, a suburb of Tamale, around 1515 hours, where the suspect was arrested. The statement indicated that the suspect was allegedly operating from an over-the-counter chemical shop.
During a search at the suspect's shop and residence, several exhibits were retrieved, including 32 boxes of 50mg Tramadol and one box of 250mg Tramadol. Other items found were one sachet of 120mg Royal Tramadol, one sachet of 100mg Tramadol, nine boxes of 32mg Astradol-P, and 24 bottles of Koffex.
The statement noted that the exhibits, along with the suspect, had been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigations and prosecution. The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting in investigations while efforts are underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify possible accomplices linked to the illicit trade.
