Ghanaian chef and former Guinness World Record contender Chef Faila has opened up about the experiences and opportunities that laid the foundation for her rise in the culinary world. She shared how her journey from a hotel kitchen led to representing Ghana on international stages.
According to Ghana Web, Chef Faila, born Abdul-Razak Failatu, recalled her days as a young chef at a hotel where she developed a reputation for resourcefulness and maintaining the quality of the food she prepared. In a Facebook post on May 11, 2026, she highlighted her ability to manage ingredients effectively, impressing her boss with her cost management skills while still delivering quality meals.
Chef Faila's dedication earned her significant recognition, including a brand-new Mapouka Savvy motorbike, which was considered a status symbol at the time. However, she described a phone call during a university lecture as a defining moment in her career. Her former boss, a friend of Bugri Naabu, informed her of an opportunity to cater meals for 500 delegates at an NPP event. Despite uncertainties about financing such a large order, she boldly accepted the challenge.
She quickly made arrangements for a classmate to cover her in case of tests and traveled to Tamale to fulfill the contract. The earnings from this opportunity became the financial foundation for future ventures, including student birthday parties and larger events at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
In her reflection, Chef Faila emphasized the importance of humility, mentorship, and discipline in professional growth. She cautioned against letting pride hinder opportunities for training and exposure. Additionally, she expressed a desire to reconnect with Bugri Naabu to thank him for the pivotal role he played in her career journey.
