Accra: The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to pursue constitutional reforms aimed at stripping the Attorney General of prosecutorial powers as a measure to effectively tackle corruption in the country.
According to Ghana Web, Dankwah's remarks come in the wake of a recent High Court ruling that questioned the prosecutorial authority of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and directed that a particular case should be handled by the Attorney General. In a Facebook post dated April 15, 2026, Dankwah expressed his concerns about the current system, which he believes undermines efforts to fight corruption, and advocated for the establishment of an independent prosecutor.
Dankwah emphasized that if President Mahama is committed to combating corruption, he must urgently seek a constitutional amendment to remove the prosecutorial powers from the Attorney General and redefine the role strictly as a government lawyer. He asserted, "If Mahama wants to fight corruption, he must immediately, through constitutional amendment, strip the AG of prosecutorial powers and let the AG be government lawyer. We need an independent prosecutor."
In his post, Dankwah voiced his concerns regarding actions that he claims weaken anti-corruption initiatives in the country. He remarked, "Corruption fighting those who want to fight corruption. This country is not the same; they should understand. We can see clearly what they are doing when it comes to fighting corruption."
Furthermore, Dankwah called on President Mahama to take decisive actions to safeguard his anti-corruption credentials and suggested that the President consider dismissing individuals who might be undermining these efforts. He stressed, "JM must wake up. If he needs to fire people, he should. This perception is bad for his image. Your own lawyers undermining your fight against corruption is beyond shocking."
