Accra: The Chief Executive of the Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a challenge to the Minority in Parliament, urging them to cease what he terms as 'all this talk and press conferences' and instead utilize the appropriate Parliamentary committees to investigate the agency.
According to Ghana Web, the Minority, spearheaded by Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has been advocating for a thorough examination of GOLDBOD following a reported $1.7 billion loss in 2025. They have also demanded that Mr. Gyamfi present himself before Parliament for questioning regarding the matter.
In a discussion on Joy News' News File, Mr. Gyamfi expressed his readiness to respond to any inquiries from Parliament. He questioned, 'Do I, Sammy Gyamfi, look like somebody who will be afraid of a Parliamentary probe?' He emphasized that the Minority does not require a motion to initiate such an investigation, as Parliament's committee system already provides the necessary framework.
Mr. Gyamfi further commented on the Minority's approach, stating, 'And the motion they've filed missed the issue. Look, Parliament works in committees, haven't you heard that phrase? You don't even need any motion because GOLDBOD is under the oversight of the committee on economy with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as a ranking member.' He highlighted that the committee had recently engaged with GOLDBOD and had the authority to demand documents from him if required.
