Standard Chartered in partnership with Enactus Ghana has launched Phase Two of the Youth Employability Skills programme, a year-long youth engagement programme to prepare up to 4000 youth as entrepreneurs and equip them with employability skills as part of the Bank’s COVID 19 – economic recovery programme.
Youth Employability Skills is funded by the Standard Chartered Foundation and is under Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the bank’s global initiative to tackle inequality by promoting greater economic inclusion for disadvantaged young people, including those impacted by thee.
In Phase 1 of the Youth Employability Skills programme, over 18,000 youth were trained in Employability and Entrepreneurial Skills across the country. The programme is implemented by Enactus Ghana.
Delivering the keynote address, Harry Dankyi, Head Internal Audit, Ghana & West Africa, Standard Chartered, encouraged the youth to stay focused as they go through the programme, he said, “We are glad that we are able to extend the Youth Employability Skills programme following the success of the programme last year. With this initiative, we aim to build the capacity of disadvantaged young people to access jobs and economic opportunities so they can contribute to the economic growth of the country. Speaking at the launch, Dr Baba Sayuti, Country Leader, Enactus Ghana said, “We are grateful to the Standard Chartered Foundation and are proud to prepare young people for meaningful roles for them to contribute to the economic well-being of their communities. We are committed to helping communities revive and thrive post-pandemic.”
Under Futuremakers, there are other programmes that the bank runs specially for the youth with other implementing partners, Youth to Work with Challenges Ghana and the Women in Technology Incubator with the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre.
