Akatsi: The Management of the St Paul's Hospital Limited in Akatsi, Volta Region, has officially opened its Emergency, Pharmacy, and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) Units to boost quality health delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Emergency Unit, named 'Dagbui Memorial Emergency Unit,' aims to recognize the contributions made by Dr. Paul Doe Dagbui, a medical Director and Founder of the Hospital, who passed away in 2022. The management stated that these facilities would enhance their operations and ensure a first-class healthcare system, a hallmark of the facility for 31 years.
Mr. Seyram Dagbui, the Chief Executive of the Hospital, told the Ghana News Agency during the ceremony that the hospital would continue to offer excellent client service. He emphasized the hospital's reputation in the health sector due to its hard work and quality healthcare delivery and expressed commitment to building on the foundations laid by the late Dr. Dagbui.
Mr. Dagbui also announced plans to acquire a new ambulance vehicle to aid in emergency cases. Madam Bridget Bockor, the Hospital's Matron and in-charge at the Maternity unit, mentioned that the new NICU unit features three incubators and a phototherapy machine to provide critical care for newborns requiring close monitoring or medical intervention.
Mr. Freeman Sappor, in-charge at the new Emergency Unit, highlighted that the facility is equipped to handle complex situations and serves as a critical care point for trauma, medical, and surgical emergencies, receiving patients from Akatsi South and other areas in Ghana.
The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Fr Theophilus Mensah, the Parish Priest of Ave-Dakpa Roman Catholic Church, who prayed for mercy and healing for all who would require the services of the facilities. The hospital, with a staff strength of 75, including a surgeon, resident Doctor, two medical Doctors, and two Physician Assistants, is noted for recording zero maternal deaths for the past four years and provides diagnostic services with modern equipment.
