Accra: The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that former Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang-Manu was arrested and interrogated by the state in 2025.
According to Ghana Web, speaking in an interview on JoyNews on March 10, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu stated that the former health minister was taken into custody and questioned by the National Intelligence Bureau due to allegations of corruption during his tenure. He mentioned that the investigation had concluded, and the Attorney General was set to file charges against Agyemang-Manu in the near future.
Kwakye Ofosu commented on Agyemang-Manu's public declarations, where he claimed that no legal actions had been taken against him. Ofosu highlighted that Agyemang-Manu was indeed arrested, interrogated, and cautioned. The charges are related to two main cases: the Sputnik V procurement and the COVID-19 frontier case. The Attorney General is expected to formally charge him in court soon.
Furthermore, Kwakye Ofosu, who also serves as the Spokesperson to the President, indicated that the charges may include causing financial loss to the state and violations of procurement laws. He emphasized that two comprehensive dockets have been prepared against Agyemang-Manu, detailing various infractions that the Attorney General would pursue.
These developments follow remarks made by Agyemang-Manu, who had previously expressed confidence in his continued freedom despite speculation about his potential arrest under President John Dramani Mahama's administration. Agyemang-Manu had publicly stated that he remained unfazed by rumors of impending legal troubles, asserting that he was still working freely more than a year into the current government.
Kwaku Agyemang-Manu faced scrutiny for signing a contract for COVID-19 vaccines without obtaining parliamentary approval. Reports suggest that he admitted to bypassing cabinet approval in engaging a private individual for the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines to address Ghana's COVID-19 situation.
