Accra: Prophet Kumchacha has added his voice to the ongoing national debate sparked by a viral video in which a church member accused the leadership of extorting money from congregants through tithing. Speaking on United Showbiz on April 25, 2026, the outspoken preacher highlighted how certain churches have failed to prioritize the genuine concerns of their members.
According to Ghana Web, Prophet Kumchacha expressed concerns that some churches in Ghana are being run like franchises, with their primary focus on accumulating wealth rather than serving the spiritual and social needs of their congregations. He mentioned a worrying trend where pastors, after completing Bible school, establish churches named after larger, well-known churches. These churches often impose financial targets on their branches, and failure to meet these targets could lead to serious consequences.
Prophet Kumchacha further alleged that churches might transfer pastors to rural communities if they fail to meet their financial targets. He stated that some churches set specific tithing and offering goals for their branch pastors, and those who do not meet these goals are relocated to rural areas to continue their ministry. In such cases, pastors are often tasked with caring for a small group of around 20 members, while their previous branches in the cities are handed over to pastors capable of reaching the set financial targets.
