Agbozume: The Som¨ Traditional Council has announced the programme of activities for Som¨tutuza 2026, the annual cultural celebration aimed at promoting the traditional area's heritage, unity, and development. The celebration, scheduled for September 13 to 27, will climax with a grand durbar on Saturday, September 26, at the Som¨ National Park, Agbozume, from 1000 hours.
According to Ghana News Agency, this year's celebration is being held under the theme: 'Harnessing the Potential of Youth for Socio-Cultural Preservation, Economic Prosperity, and Tourism Development to Foster Peace and Unity.' The theme seeks to highlight the role of the youth in preserving the cultural identity of Som¨ while contributing to economic growth, tourism development, peace, and unity.
The programme will commence on September 13 with a traditional prayer and libation at the forecourt of the Makosor Palace. A reconciliation programme will be held across communities in the Som¨ traditional area on September 14, followed by visits to tourist sites and student-focused activities, including the Som¨ Fugo Students Quiz Competition and Som¨ Fugo Youth Summit on September 15.
The Som¨ Fugo Students' Durbar is scheduled for September 17 at the Denu Chicago School Park, while September 18 will feature communal labour, the Som¨ Wego Students Quiz Competition, and a musicians' parade. A Mega Health Walk, fireworks night, and music jam, as well as a Food and Drinks Buzza Night, will form part of activities on September 19.
Christian prayers are planned for September 20, while the finals of the Som¨ Fugo and Wego Students Quiz Competition will take place on September 22. The remaining activities include communal labour, a mega float, food and drinks events, a students' durbar, the grand durbar, and a kite and craft exhibition, with a thanksgiving ceremony scheduled for September 27.
The Traditional Council has declared September 14 to 27 as a period of no drumming and noise-making and has suspended funeral rites throughout the Som¨ traditional area during this period. The grand durbar is expected to provide an opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage of Som¨ and encourage greater youth participation in cultural preservation, tourism, and community development.
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is listed as the Special Guest of Honour for the grand celebration. The Traditional Council has invited indigenes, residents, visitors, and other stakeholders to participate in the activities and contribute to making Som¨tutuza 2026 a celebration of culture, unity, peace, and development.
