Sixteen Certified Dressmakers Graduate in Sandema

Sandema: The Foundation for Integrated Strategic Training and Development (FISTRAD), a Non-Governmental Organization, has celebrated the graduation of 16 apprentices following a three-year training program in dressmaking.

According to Ghana News Agency, the ceremony attracted families, community leaders, and well-wishers who came to witness the achievement of these individuals who have acquired employable skills. The graduates received professional dressmaking certificates, enabling them to establish their own fashion enterprises.

FISTRAD, established in Sandema in 1996, has been dedicated to training young people in weaving and dressmaking, complemented by a library stocked with books and computers for public use. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for both the graduates and the organization's mission to strengthen the local garment and tailoring industries.

Mr. Richard Alando, Executive Director of FISTRAD, praised the apprentices' perseverance and urged them to use their skills not only for personal gain but also to train others, aiding in reducing youth unemployment. He emphasized FISTRAD's commitment to skills development as a pathway for sustainable livelihoods and community transformation.

Mr. Alando announced that applications for the 2026 cohort are now open, with plans underway to absorb new apprentices. Mr. Solomon Ansoabyie Akogti, Builsa North Municipal Chief Executive and Special Guest of Honour, congratulated the graduates for their achievements and highlighted the importance of partnerships between the Assembly and FISTRAD.

Mr. Akogti stressed the role of vocational training in reducing unemployment and enhancing the artisanal industry, which is crucial for economic growth in the area. He encouraged the graduates to continue innovating and expanding their creative boundaries in their future careers.

Nab Akanfebanyuenta Asuik II, Chief of Wiaga and Chairman of the ceremony, commended FISTRAD's contributions to youth empowerment in the region. He urged stakeholders to support FISTRAD in addressing challenges to improve service delivery and encouraged graduates to apply their skills for the benefit of others.

Some graduates expressed their gratitude to God, their relatives, and the staff and management of FISTRAD for their support and encouragement throughout their training.
