Konongo:Six remand prisoners escaped from the Konongo Police Station in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, triggering a massive manhunt by security agencies in the Ashanti Region.
According to Ghana Web, the prisoners managed to flee by digging through a cell wall into an adjacent washroom, subsequently scaling the perimeter fencing to make their escape. Authorities have recaptured one fugitive in Kumasi, but five remain at large.
Dr. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, Chief Executive for Asante Akyem Central, confirmed the incident and stated that the Municipal Security Council is taking immediate action to reinforce the facility's security. Plans include constructing a modern police station, improving security lighting, installing surveillance cameras, and increasing nightly police presence to prevent similar incidents in the future.
