Shatta Wale Dismisses Stonebwoy’s Birthday Message, Calls for End to Hostility

ACCRA: Dancehall artist Shatta Wale has publicly rejected the birthday wishes sent by fellow artist Stonebwoy, reigniting a longstanding feud between the two musicians. Despite Stonebwoy’s conciliatory message, Shatta Wale responded with a demand for maturity and an end to what he described as unnecessary enmity.

According to Ghana Web, the exchange occurred after Stonebwoy took to social media to wish Shatta Wale a happy 40th birthday on October 17, 2024. Stonebwoy’s message on X, formerly Twitter, read, “No matter the differences, I wish you a long life, brother! Big 40… (Blackstar age).” Shatta Wale, however, took issue with the mention of “differences,” urging Stonebwoy to “stop fooling and grow up,” and stating that their fans do not need any enmity between them.

The rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has been a focal point in the Ghanaian music scene for over six years. The tension between the two intensified recently when Stonebwoy criticized a Grammy Recording Academy article that highlighted
Shatta Wale and other artists as pioneers of hiplife, notably excluding Stonebwoy. Shatta Wale responded by accusing Stonebwoy of greed and an incessant desire to be included in everything.

This latest exchange underscores the enduring nature of their feud, which has been marked by public spats and near physical altercations. Despite the occasional gestures toward reconciliation, the animosity between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy persists, highlighting a significant divide within the Ghanaian dancehall community.
