Select players who have quality regardless of where they are playing – Asamoah Gyan tells Black Stars technical team

Asamoah Gyan has urged the technical team of the Black Stars to invite players who have quality regardless of where they are playing.

In an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio, the former Black Stars captain argued that a player might still contribute a great deal to Ghana’s success even though they play in leagues considered to be inferior.

Gyan insisted that regardless of where the players might be playing, it is imperative that players who can contribute significantly to the Black Stars’ success must be invited.

“It’s something that happens everywhere all over the world. We’ve had a few good players who come in, including even our current head coach Otto Addo when he was playing, and serve their country well,” the 36-year-old said.

“I think sometimes we should forget about where they play. When you feel a player is good, and he can help the national team, why not?” he added.

Jojo Wollacott who joined the Black Stars set up was criticized following his unimpressive performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon but became a hero against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff games.
