Ghana: The Sefwi-Wiawso High Court has cleared the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency to proceed with its long-awaited constituency elections, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the party's internal electoral process. The ruling effectively lifted an earlier injunction that had prevented the constituency from conducting its elections. According to Ghana News Agency, the decision followed an application by party stakeholders seeking to overturn the injunction and allow for the election of new constituency executives. The National Executive Committee of the NPP also gave the green light for the constituency to proceed with its outstanding internal elections after the plaintiffs formally withdrew their court action. Consequently, the constituency's electoral process was scheduled to take place over three days, beginning Friday, August 7, with validation of the polling station register, followed by the Electoral Area Executive Committee election on Saturday, August 8, an d the Constituency Executive election on Sunday, August 9. To ensure a credible and transparent process, the party reconstituted a five-member Elections Committee to supervise the exercise. The committee is chaired by Dr Ernest Owusu-Kumi, Director of Research, with Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, Mr Archibold Tawiah, Mr Mohammed Sumaila, and Mr Ernest Adasa Nkrumah as members. The Western North Regional Steering Committee was also tasked to work closely with the Constituency Executive Committee to ensure the success of the process. Some party officials told the Ghana News Agency that preparations were far advanced for the elections, which were expected to take place at designated centres across the constituency. Delegates, aspirants, and party supporters have been urged to conduct themselves peacefully and adhere to the party's electoral guidelines to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible process. The latest development is expected to restore stability within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency and pave th e way for the election of new constituency executives ahead of the party's future political activities.
