Accra: Interior Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has announced that only 5,000 applicants will be recruited into the various security services in the first phase of the ongoing recruitment exercise, citing fiscal limitations as the reason.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Muntaka addressed a press conference in Parliament, stating that the recruitment process into the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana National Service primarily involved body selection and documentation. He noted that fewer than 30,000 applicants were disqualified through documentation, leaving 400,000 ready to proceed to aptitude tests and medical exams.
The Minister explained that a pass mark of 65 percent was established to reduce the number of applicants. He mentioned that several options were considered, and setting the pass mark at 65 was a strategy to ensure more candidates could progress to the medical exams. Despite the high number of applicants, the recruitment exercise can only accommodate 5,000 individuals.
Alhaji Muntaka emphasized the government's commitment to creating jobs not only in the security services but also across various sectors for the youth in need of employment. He urged young people to remain patient, assuring them that this recruitment exercise is not the last opportunity the government plans to offer.
