Accra: The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced the full list of entities admitted to its Virtual Asset Sandbox initiative as of August 19, 2026. This programme allows selected companies to pilot various virtual asset services within Ghana's regulatory sandbox framework.
According to Ghana Web, the SEC's Virtual Asset Sandbox provides a controlled environment for companies offering services like cryptocurrency exchanges and digital asset platforms. These firms can test their products and business models under regulatory supervision, a step necessary before obtaining full licensing or registration. The sandbox programme began in March 2026, following an announcement on March 10 of the same year.
The Commission's participation of selected Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) aims to collect essential regulatory data. This data will support the development and finalisation of guidelines and regulations necessary for activity-specific licensing and registration. This initiative aligns with the SEC's mandate under the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2025 (Act 1154).
The SEC stated that the approved participants would conduct specific virtual asset activities within the regulatory sandbox, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of these services under Ghana's evolving regulatory framework.
