Accra: The Right to Information (RTI) Commission has imposed a total of GHS220,000 in fines on four public institutions, including the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), for failing to comply with the Right to Information Act, 2019. This was revealed in a statement issued by the Commission on February 5, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the Commission conducted investigations, hearings, and determinations in accordance with Act 989, leading to administrative penalties on the institutions for neglecting their statutory duties under the Act. The fines imposed are as follows: Ghana Education Service (GES) - GHS10,000, WBM Zion Senior High School - GHS10,000, National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) - GHS100,000, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) - GHS100,000.
The Commission has warned that continued non-compliance with the RTI Act will result in further enforcement actions. It emphasized that adherence to Act 989 is mandatory, and any failure to meet statutory timelines, fulfill disclosure obligations, or comply with enforcement directives is a breach of the law, warranting regulatory consequences.
