Akatsi: A philanthropist, Reverend Father Enyonam, in collaboration with friends, has initiated a programme to supply 2,000 desks to basic schools in the Akatsi South Municipality to improve teaching and learning conditions.
According to Ghana News Agency, the intervention targets kindergarten, primary, and junior high schools, aiming to address the furniture deficit across the municipality. A statement from Mr. Karim Ayaana Umar, Municipal Director of Education, indicated that an initial batch of 500 mono-desks has already been delivered to the Akatsi South Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for distribution to eight selected schools.
The first phase of the distribution will benefit Akatsi R.C. Basic School, Wlite R.C. Primary School, Akatsico Practice 'A', Adzikame M.A. Basic School, Agbedrafor R.C. Basic School, Atsiekpui M.A. Primary School, Wuxor M.A. Basic School, and Akatsi Demonstration Basic School. A ceremony to officially distribute the desks and acknowledge the donors' contributions is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 1000 hours at the Akatsi Roman Catholic Basic School.
The statement invited headteachers of the beneficiary schools and encouraged them to extend invitations to the School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) executives, community chiefs, and assembly members to attend the event. Notable attendees expected include the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Daniel Dagba, and personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Directorate expressed optimism that this initiative will significantly enhance classroom infrastructure and promote effective teaching and learning outcomes in the municipality.
