Rabat: Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, has embarked on a comprehensive thank you tour across all paramountcies in the region to express the government's gratitude to traditional leaders for their support during the 2024 general elections. This initiative serves as part of the Minister's responsibilities as the President's Representative for the Region, with the added aim of familiarizing himself with the developmental challenges faced by various traditional areas.
According to Ghana News Agency, during his tour, Mr. Puozuing commended the traditional leaders for their steadfast support to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the elections. He expressed the government's appreciation for the crucial role played by these leaders in maintaining peace and stability within the region. He also engaged with traditional leaders on issues affecting their areas, seeking their collaboration in tackling the developmental challenges that the region faces.
At Lambussie, Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie II, the Paramount Chief of the Lambussie traditional area, detailed the significant development needs and recent tribal disputes that require attention. He highlighted that the district's poor road networks hinder the transportation of farm produce, impacting farmers and businesses. The chief also raised concerns about escalating disputes between the Sissala and Dagaati tribes, which have led to loss of life and injuries, creating a volatile atmosphere detrimental to residents and potential investors.
Kuoro Kazie underscored the importance of resolving these disputes to ensure social harmony and facilitate development. He appealed to Mr. Puozuing, as a regional leader, to use his influence to address these tribal tensions. The chief stressed that prolonged disputes could deter investors who seek stability and predictable traditional authority structures.
Moreover, the Paramount Chief pointed out the district polyclinic's challenges, emphasizing the need for the completion of the Agenda 111 Hospital projects to enhance healthcare services. In response, the Regional Minister assured the traditional leaders of the government's commitment to addressing their needs as part of a broader developmental agenda for the Upper West Region. He pledged ongoing engagement to ensure that promises are translated into concrete results.
Mr. Puozuing also urged the local population to foster peace and harmony, emphasizing that peaceful coexistence is essential for national cohesion and the region's development and progress.
