Accra: The Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament's Energy Committee, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has raised concerns over the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission's (PURC) lack of response to recent power outages affecting parts of the country.
According to Ghana Web, the power cuts have been attributed to a fire at a Ghana Grid Company facility near the Akosombo Dam, coupled with ongoing efforts to upgrade transformers in certain areas. Speaking on Channel One News, Adomako-Mensah expressed his expectation that PURC would have addressed the situation, noting the regulator's past actions in similar circumstances.
Adomako-Mensah highlighted the unstable power supply in numerous areas, pointing out that the regulator has yet to issue any statement or communication to the public. He emphasized the importance of the PURC's role in keeping consumers informed, especially during disruptions in power supply.
The Deputy Ranking Member recalled how in 2024, PURC sanctioned board members for not providing a timetable for addressing issues that disrupted power supply to Ghanaian consumers. He expressed surprise at PURC's current silence, given the ongoing fluctuations and challenges faced by the power sector.
