Accra: Mr Kofi Asare Asianowa, the Greater Accra Regional Industrial Relations Officer of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC)-Ghana, has emphasized the importance of adherence to rules and diligent work among union leaders to ensure that workers receive their rightful entitlements. He conveyed these messages during an orientation and training session for the newly sworn-in officers of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Division of the PSWU in Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Asianowa highlighted the need for regular interactions with union members to educate them on rules and effectively represent their concerns to management. He advised union leaders to refrain from vindictive actions and to remain supportive, available, and defensive of members, thereby fostering a healthy working relationship between workers and management.
The orientation marked the beginning of a second four-year term for the eight-member executive team, chaired by Mrs Lydia Kukua Asamoah, a Senior Editor of the GNA. Mr Asianowa introduced the executives to the 'solidarity principle,' urging that no worker should stand alone, as unity strengthens the union. He stressed that purposeful action and focus on achieving the best outcomes for members are crucial.
During the training, Mr Asianowa also guided the executives through the union's Constitution and internal regulations, emphasizing the importance of protecting jobs, securing better working conditions, monitoring compliance with rules, and pursuing compensations and health-related issues for members. He noted that these goals could be achieved through collaboration with the larger PSWU umbrella and effective networking with affiliate members of the TUC.
